Fiduciary Management Certificate

This program provides an in-depth and applied understanding of professional fiduciary practices, including concepts, practical knowledge, and skills needed. Ongoing education is especially important due to the Professional Fiduciaries Act, which requires licensing of all professional fiduciaries.

Program Information

The certificates in Professional Fiduciary Management for Trustees and Conservators will help participants develop a comprehensive understanding of the standards, practices, and legal and ethical considerations of professional fiduciary management. Areas of focus include the prudent use and protection of a protected person’s assets, accounting and recordkeeping, management of assets as well as execution or administration of a will and/or management of a trust. Certificate Eligibility

The program is open to anyone, however, to be eligible for a certificate upon completion of the program, you must show proof of one of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University; OR
  • At least 60 semester units of college level work; OR
  • At least 5 years of experience working in fiduciary management or geriatric care

*The California State University, Fullerton Extension and International Programs (EIP) does not guarantee that students who meet the eligibility requirements for the Professional Fiduciary Management certificate program are eligible to take the state licensing exam. It is the student’s responsibility to perform due diligence and review the licensing requirements listed in section 6530-6541 of the California Business and Professions Code found here: http://www.fiduciary.ca.gov/laws_regs/act.shtml. Out-of-state students taking the courses may be subject to different requirements.

The Sherrie Ellman Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship award honors the achievements and commitment to continuing learning of students in the Professional Fiduciary Management Certificate program. It is supported by a fund created in memory of Sherrie Ellman, who understood the need for well-trained, dedicated people to work with older adults. Scholarships are awarded up to a maximum of $300.

The Scholarship Award Process

  • Submit an essay of up to 500 words - addressing the value of lifelong learning and how a specific certificate program will benefit your career path. Please include: a notation of the scholarship you are applying for and the semester in which you want to receive it (fall or spring and the year), your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address (if available). Submit all entries to:

  • You may only receive each scholarship once, and only one scholarship (either the EIP Scholarship or the Sherrie Ellman Scholarship) per semester.
  • If you are named as a scholarship recipient, the designated funds will be awarded to you upon verification of successful completion of course(s) in the specified certificate program, with a grade of "C" or better. The scholarship award, which may not exceed the maximum amount, represents a reimbursement to cover the cost of the course(s) awardees are enrolled in during the semester in which the scholarship is requested.
  • Scholarships are awarded as funds are available, which may not be every semester.
