Our curriculum will take you from the basics of crime analysis all the way through to advanced software training and GIS mapping, during which you’ll also gain valuable hands-on experience with law enforcement.
Our cohort model lets you plan ahead for your certificate program and complete it in three academic terms. Plus, classes are held on weekends, so this program is ideal for anyone working full time

The only thing better than catching criminals is being one step ahead of them
On the street, police use tangible evidence to solve crimes. But criminals can leave behind much more, including data, patterns and profiles. With our help, you’ll learn how to analyze that data, recognize patterns and develop profiles, becoming an invaluable asset in law enforcement’s efforts to not only bring criminals to justice, but also prevent future crimes from being committed.
Over the program’s eight classes, you’ll learn the most advanced methods of collecting crime data, analyzing it and using it to create statistical models and research for law enforcement to better understand and anticipate crime. You’ll also learn to understand the motives and patterns of the criminals themselves. You don’t need any previous law enforcement experience.
This program allows you to take courses on an individual basis as long as you meet the prerequisites, but you must apply for the program and successfully complete all of the classes to receive your certificate. Candidates must also complete two prerequisite courses prior to program application approval - “Introduction to Criminal Justice” and “Criminal Law” - which can be taken through Open University* at Cal State Fullerton, or at another accredited college or university.

Note: Open Source Intelligence Gathering and Analysis is the only class that can be taken at any time with an approved application.

Practicum in Crime and Intelligence Analysis
A program certificate is awarded upon completion of the classwork. An optional 100-hour practicum is available for those who wish to gain additional hands-on experience. Practicum hours must be supervised work with a law enforcement agency and/or intelligence unit. You may be eligible to apply previous or current work experience in law enforcement to this requirement. We encourage all our students to pursue practicum experience to gain invaluable hands-on experience and develop marketable skills using the principles and practices you’ve learned in the program.
