How to apply for medical school after earning a non-science bachelor’s degree
Every year, students from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds take
the first step towards a medical career. But if you graduated with a non-science degree,
it is not too late to become a competitive professional medical school applicant.
According to the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), applicants are required to have completed the following prerequisites:
- Bachelor's degree
- One year of biology
- One year of physics
- One year of English composition
- Two years of chemistry
The Pre-Health Professions Postbaccalaureate Program offered at University Extension can help you fulfill those prerequisites in two ways:
- The Career Changer Program is designed for students without a science background (available on part-time or full-time schedule).
- The full-time Academic Finisher Program is for students with some science background.
Choose the track that best fulfills your academic needs here.
Overall, the Pre-Health Program provides students with:
- All required science prerequisites in a structured, supportive environment.
- Individualized academic advising and MCAT preparation guidance.
- Health-related workshops and advising sessions.
- Support in building a strong, competitive application for professional schools.
