Course Information

Preparation for taking the state exam requires intensive practice in all three modes of interpretation with extensive review of terminology. In this class, individuals will learn practical test-taking techniques and strategies for both the oral and written sections of the state exam. Intensive interpreting of lengthy and detailed utterances, fast and technical speech, complex legal texts or discourse containing colloquial language and review legal glossaries will be done in class. All practice sessions will be conducted in the language laboratory and the class concludes with a mock examination similar to the state exam.

Bilingual Proficiency Test, Program Orientation, Fundamentals of Interpretation and Translation, The Role of the Interpreter in the California Courts, Consecutive Interpreting, Simultaneous Interpreting , Sight Translation, Mock Interpreting, Legal and Administrative Document Translation
