Course Number: EDEL X935 (2.00 Units)
This class will explore both the identification of the gifted student and their social and emotional issues that might overshadow their intellectual abilities. A variety of methods of identifying the gifted child from the traditional IQ tests to lesser known methods of assessments will be examined. In addition, this class will delve into the various aspects of the social and emotional behavior of the gifted which greatly affect their academic achievement and identification. The gifted have several general characteristics that when understood can greatly enhance the educational experience. Overexcitabilities and asynchrony development will be explained and underlying reasons for underachievement will be discussed.
