Why did you choose CSUF for your micro-credential module/course?

I completed my Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics and Master of Arts in Education both at CSUF. Teachers, mentors and program leads do an outstanding job in creating a program that best fits the need of the students. CSUF has always been a great institution for higher learning. As an educator for more than fifteen years, I have learned to appreciate life long learning. As an educator, I feel that we must continue to learn new techniques, new modes for teaching to help empower our students.

What aspect of the module/course was most memorable for you?

Our required conversation with other students in class was very helpful. In our course, we had teachers from all levels (elementary, middle, high school) of school. Conversing, looking at others teachers’ class video recording, getting feedback on my own lesson all helped in understanding the importance of Math Talk in the classroom. Instructors did an amazing job facilitating these conversations and providing examples.

In what ways did the course (module) change or improve your work as an educator?

Yes, the course helped me improve my work as an educator. Now, I am able to use techniques I learned in this course to help improve my students’ understanding of difficult mathematical concepts. Implementation of Math Talk gave my students confidence to communicate their findings and results using precise mathematical language. It allowed them to be curious, and inquisitive about a mathematical topic without worrying about the grade part of the assignment.

Why might you recommend the ATMALA micro-credentials to other educators?

I would definitely recommend the ATMALA micro-credentials to other educators. I have already shared articles and videos from my participation in the program with my department. Many of my colleagues found the techniques interesting and were interested in learning more about it. MATH TALK is an easy technique to learn, and easy to implement with tremendous benefits for students. I strongly encourage all mathematics educators to take this micro credential course.

Anything else you would like to add, please do!

Instructors did a fantastic job in providing examples and articles. They did a good job providing rubrics and giving timely feedback. Thank You.
