Refund Policies
Please note: Effective December 28, 2020, a non-refundable 2.65% service charge will be charged to all credit/debit card transactions. This charge is assessed by Cashnet Inc. Service charges are included in your transaction and are paid directly to Cashnet Inc. Service charges are non-refundable. Please refer to Terms and Conditions.
Continuing Education Unit (CEU) and Non-Credit University Extension Classes
CEU and non-credit classes may not be dropped online. To drop a class, please contact University Extension Student Services at extension@fullerton.edu or call 657-278-2611. Refunds are based on the date when the official drop is received by the University Extension office.
Refunds will be issued back to the original form of payment. If you paid with a check or electronic ACH, allow up to 6 weeks for refunds via check to mailing address on file. Checks cannot be picked up in person. If you paid with a credit card, allow 7-10 business days for your refund to be credited back to your credit card. If you do not receive your refund by that time, please email extension@fullerton.edu or call 657-278-2611.
In-Person Classes
- If you drop at least one business day prior to the class start date, a full refund less $10 per class will be issued.
- If you drop on or after the class start date:
- Classes with four or less class meetings - There is no refund.
- Classes with five or more class meetings - If less than 25% of the class time has elapsed, a 65% refund will be issued. After 25% of the class time has elapsed, there will be no refund. (For example, there would be no refund for drops after three meetings of a twelve-meeting class because 25% of the class meetings has elapsed.)
Online & Hybrid Classes
- If you drop at least one business day prior to the class start date, a full refund less $10 per class will be issued.
- If you drop on or after the class start date, if less than 25% of the class time has elapsed, a 65% refund will be issued. After 25% of the class time has elapsed, there will be no refund.
Open University Classes
Fall and Spring
- If you drop at least one day before the first day of the semester, you will receive a full refund of tuition and mandatory campus fees paid minus $10 drop fee per course.
- If you drop on or after the first day of the semester but within the early enrollment/drop period, a refund equal to 65% of tuition plus prorated mandatory campus fees will be calculated and refunded accordingly. The remaining 35% of tuition and applicable prorated fees will be retained.
- If you are administratively disenrolled within the early enrollment/drop period, because you did not pay fees in full when you registered, you will still owe 35% of the total fees, and a financial hold will be placed on your student account until that balance is paid.
- If you drop during the late withdrawal period ("W" grade) through the designated late enrollment date, you will receive a refund equal to 65% of tuition plus prorated mandatory campus fees. The remaining 35% of tuition and applicable prorated fees will be retained.
- During the late withdrawal period, course drops are permitted only for serious and compelling reasons. Students must submit an approved Withdrawal Petition through the Late Withdrawal Process. No refunds will be issued for withdrawals during this period.

Winter and Summer
- If you drop at least one day before the first day of the semester, you will receive a full refund of tuition and mandatory campus fees paid minus $10 drop fee per course.
- If you drop on or after the first day of the specific session but within the early enrollment/drop period, a refund equal to 65% of tuition plus prorated mandatory campus fees will be calculated and refunded accordingly. The remaining 35% of tuition and applicable prorated fees will be retained.
- If you are administratively disenrolled within this early enrollment/drop period because you did not pay fees in full when you registered, you will still owe 35% of the total fees and a financial hold will be placed on your student account until that balance is paid.
- During the late withdrawal period, course drops are permitted only for serious and compelling reasons. Students must submit an approved Withdrawal Petition through the Late Withdrawal Process. No refunds will be issued for withdrawals during this period.

Fall and Spring
8 Weeks and Cal State Online Classes:
- If you drop at least one day prior to the session start date, a full refund less $10 per class will be issued.
- If you drop on or after the session start date, if less than 25% of the class time has elapsed, a 65% refund will be issued. After 25% of the class time has elapsed, there will be no refund.
15 and 16 Weeks Classes:
- If you drop at least one day prior to the session start date, a full refund less $10 per class will be issued.
- If you drop on or after the session start date, a 65% refund will be issued up to the census date.
- If you drop after the census date, there will be no refund.
Summer
5 Weeks, 8 Weeks, 10 Weeks, and Cal State Online Classes:
- If you drop at least one day prior to the session start date, a full refund less $10 per class will be issued.
- If you drop on or after the session start date, if less than 25% of the class time has elapsed, a 65% refund will be issued. After 25% of the class time has elapsed, there will be no refund.
University Semester Abroad (USA)
- If a student withdraws before the program start date, a full refund less a $255 administrative fee will be issued.
- If a student withdraws on the first day or within 25% of the program, 65% of the tuition will be refunded. Fees are non-refundable.
- If a student withdraws after 25% of the program has elapsed, no refund will be issued.

Requests for refunds are processed through the University Extension office. Refunds will be issued back to the original form of payment. Allow up to six weeks for refunds via check to mailing address on file. If you paid with a credit card, allow 7-10 business days for your refund to be credited back to your credit card. Students who are dismissed from the program because of insufficient attendance or serious misconduct are not eligible to receive a refund.
