Course Number: SECS 7264 (1.25 CEUs/12.5 Hours)
Manufacturing processes involve several complex mechanisms, including heat and mass transfer, material-material interactions, material deformation, stress generation, and process uncertainties. This course focuses on the fundamentals of manufacturing process modeling and optimization. The course would discuss various techniques used to mathematically and analytically model manufacturing processes. Both traditional and advanced manufacturing processes will be analyzed to demonstrate stochastic modeling and optimization techniques. The course emphasizes on analyzing the complex nature of manufacturing processes through scientific principles in a simplified manner. During the course, each student will work on detailed case study-based projects where they apply the knowledge acquired during the course on specific industrial manufacturing processes. The participants will learn how to develop physical models, analyze, and optimize various real-world manufacturing processes. The students will also gain an understanding of the economic considerations of industry-scale manufacturing processes. The course is useful for students, researchers, and industry professionals in manufacturing engineering.
