Course Information

This class introduces the student to the field of Crime Analysis and explains the five steps in the data analysis process. These include data collection, collation, analysis, dissemination and feedback/evaluation. Where to find sources of criminal justice information, how to collect general and specific crime data, how to create data tracking matrices, how to use data to determine the emergence of new crime problems, and how to prepare basic charts, graphs, and crime and intelligence analysis reports will be introduced. The techniques to properly communicate findings to those within and external to the law enforcement agency will also be discussed.

Please note: This class includes an asynchronous preparatory week from April 14th to April 18th so that students can complete a reading assignment prior to their first live class meeting on April 19th.
