Learning Online
Part of what makes our online BA in Sociology such a great program is that you’re still very much part of the Cal State Fullerton family. Everything is designed to ensure your experience is comparable to that of a traditional on-campus student. You’ll learn from the same professors and get the same degree, only you’ll do it on your time with technology that’s advanced yet accessible, creating an environment that allows you to engage with instructors and fellow students.
Although your experience will mirror that of an on-campus student in many ways, we still want to ensure that you have the tools you need to succeed in the online classroom. Keep these tips in mind:
Gear up
Choosing to study online is an incredibly convenient way to advance your education and career, but only if you’re able to properly access your class materials. To ensure you have the necessary equipment and software to successfully complete our program, please see our technical requirements.
The syllabus is your friend
Sure, every class has a syllabus to tell you what’s coming and when, but as an online student, it’s an essential tool that you can actively use to plan your class sessions, get assignments done on time and be ready for your exams.
Communicate with your professors
It’s always important to engage with your instructors, but studying online means you won’t see them on a regular basis. Reach out to them early and often to get to know their teaching styles and expectations, and just to be on their radar when you have questions and concerns.
Find your study sanctuary
If you’re one of many online students who are also working full time, you already understand the value of creating a consistent workspace. The same principles apply to studying online, so make sure you have a space that works for you and is relatively free of distractions. That doesn’t mean you have to build yourself a Fortress of Solitude, but be sure you have a location with the stability you need, when you need it.
