Application process
Applying to the Master of Social Work Flex Program is a two-step process. It includes filling out an online application to the University via Cal State Apply and an online supplemental program application to the Department of Social Work.

Step 1: Apply to the University via Cal State Apply
Online applications will be accepted from October 1, 2026 – December 1, 2026 for Fall 2027 start term. A $70 application fee will apply and must be paid online. Official transcripts must be mailed or electronically delivered to CSUF Office of Admissions.
Step 2: Apply to the Department of Social Work
Submit your online supplemental program application on the Department of Social Work Apply webpage. Upload all supplemental materials to the online department application. This includes:
- Unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- Three letters of recommendation (one from academic course; one from a professional source, and one from either an academic or professional reference)
- Personal statement (no more than 300 word/2000 characters per question)
- Resume highlighting pertinent educational, work, internship, and/or volunteer experience
- International Students Only: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores
