Why did you choose CSUF for your Masters in Social Work program?
I chose CSUF for my Master of Social Work program because its flexibility allows me to pursue higher education while working full-time and raising my family.
What did you enjoy about being in a cohort?
The cohort model brought me a strong sense of belonging and community. This program provides a safe space where I feel supported and welcomed.
You spent time in Vietnam this summer — can you share what that experience was like?
My time in Vietnam was an amazing experience that allowed me to grow as a global student and challenge my own biases. I would highly encourage everyone to participate in the study abroad program.
How did your time in Vietnam connect to or enrich your studies in social work?
My time in Vietnam enriched my studies in social work by giving me a global perspective, helping me better understand cultural differences, and challenging me to reflect on my own biases. It strengthened my ability to approach social work with greater cultural humility and awareness.
What advice do you have for students entering the program?
My advice for students entering the program is to engage with your cohort and lean on them and staff for support. Prioritize self-care, stay organized, and take advantage of the many resources CSUF offers. Don’t forget to enjoy the campus and make use of office hours to connect with your professors.
What are your plans after completing the program?
After completing the program, I plan to obtain my LCSW, find ways to give back to my community, and continue advocating for social justice.
