Program information

You will earn a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and Social Sciences from California State University, Fullerton, a fully accredited state university.

Not unless you tell them. There is no indication on the transcript or diploma that the courses were completed online.

The faculty members of the online program are the same faculty that teach in our on-campus programs. Faculty members bring state-of-the-art practices, concepts and technologies to the curriculum and classroom through active involvement in research projects. Many faculty members bring first-hand experience to their courses through involvement in consulting and executive training activities.

The program can be completed in three years via part-time enrollment. You will complete two courses total in each term (Fall, Spring and Summer) for the first two years. In the third year, you will complete two courses in the Fall and Spring and one course in the Summer. This program cannot be accelerated. For a full course schedule, see the Program Schedule page.

Every student graduating with a BA in Humanities and Social Sciences degree at CSUF must complete at least 120 units. Including 69 transferred units and the 51 units awarded by completing this online degree program.

Note: If a student transferred 60-68 units and was admitted conditionally to the program, they must complete any pending lower-division units at a community college while in the BA in HSS program and before graduating.

The program has a flat rate of $425 per unit (for both California residents and non-residents), making it one of the best values from an accredited university.

Online Learning

Because this program includes the same classes and is taught by the same instructors as its on-campus counterparts, your experience will be similar to that of an on-campus student (with the added convenience of learning online). However, there are a few things you should know before you get started. To learn more about how to succeed as an online student, please visit our Learning Online page.

To ensure you have the necessary equipment and software to learn online successfully, please see our technical requirements.

Like on-campus classes, each online course is structured differently depending on the instructor. Generally, instructors teach courses through discussion boards, pre-recorded video lectures and PowerPoint presentations.

You will take all of your exams online through CANVAS, Cal State Fullerton’s online learning system. You are not required to come to campus for exams.
