“I apply everything that I learned in class to my job, and it really helped me understand what I did right and what I did wrong.”

After attempting to complete an on-campus program, David decided he needed a program with more flexibility. He talked to us about his struggle finishing his degree, and how the online cohort format helped him finally achieve it.

Why did you choose Cal State University, Fullerton’s Online BA in Business Administration program?

I wanted to finish my degree. Night and day classes wouldn’t work, and I needed something that would fit my schedule like CSUF’s program. I’m married with two kids and a full time job, so it was really the only opportunity I had, and I could do it online.

What were you doing before the program?

I was attending another university for a semester before I heard about this program. I decided CSUF’s program was a much faster track.

What were you hoping to get out of the program?

I wanted to finish what I started. I dropped out of school four times: once to start a business, once because my heart wasn't in it, once because I had my daughter and once because my dad died.

How did the program help you focus your career?

A lot of what I learned is directly applicable. Right now I am working in sales, and I'm taking a lot of the information I learned in my marketing class and applying it to my work.

I apply everything I learned in class to my job and the business experience I had even before college. The program really helped me understand what I did right and what I did wrong.

How was your experience with a fully online program?

It was a lot of doing it on my own. You watch the videos, take notes, read books and do all the problems. I am a self-starter type person, so it really worked well for me.

I think the most important aspect of the program was learning from other students in the discussions, answering questions on forums and being interactive.

What advice do you have for students entering the program?

Just keep going! Even if you stumble, miss a step, fail a class or life throws curveballs at you, just keep going one class at a time.
