New Student Online Check-In

All international students beginning a new degree program at CSUF must complete the New Student Online Check-In after arriving in the United States and before the start of their first semester. This is required even if you are transferring from a different U.S. institution or are changing education levels (for example, moving from a bachelor's to master's program). The information will be used to register your SEVIS record with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Complete this requirement as soon as possible to maintain your immigration status and avoid a hold on your student account.

The New Student Online Check-In is a two-step process. You must complete both steps to finish the requirement.

Step 2

Report your U.S. address, phone number, and emergency contact information in your Student Center

Step 1:

Submit copies of immigration documents

Upload PDF copies of the following immigration documents through our secure file upload system. Immigration documents should only be submitted after your arrival in the U.S. ISS will not accept any documents prior to the 30 days before the start date on your I-20 or DS-2019.

Include your full name and CWID in each file upload. Documents can be scanned from a scanner or high quality digital photos from your camera, smart phone, or tablet.

Step 2:

Report your U.S. address, phone number, and emergency contact information in your Student Center

Log in to your Student Portal to report your U.S. address, phone number, and emergency contact information in your Student Center. Be sure to use the address and phone number formatting guidelines below or we will not be able to register your SEVIS record.

For detailed instructions, refer to the PDF on How to Update Your Personal Information in Your Student Portal.

Guidelines for Reporting your U.S. Address

  • Under SEVIS D, list the address where you are currently living in the U.S.
  • If you do not have a SEVIS D address or cannot edit it, update your Home and Mailing addresses instead.
  • If you are staying in a hotel or temporary housing, you may list the hotel address and change it later.
  • Do not list a P.O. Box.
  • Do not list an address if it is only used for mailing purposes. Enter this address under "Mailing Address."
  • Do not list Cal State Fullerton’s address in this box (e.g., 800 State College or 2600 Nutwood Ave.).
  • Be sure to format your address based on the U.S. address format shown below.

  • Provide information for at least two emergency contacts. CSUF will only contact these persons in case of an emergency.
  • One must be an immediate family member in your home country (mother, father or sibling) and one emergency contact from the U.S., if possible. If you do not have an emergency contact in the U.S., list two from your home country.
  • For each contact, provide his/her full name, relationship, address, and phone number.
  • Make sure you keep this information updated at all times.
